Tech company pitch: example and how to build it

People who work in technology tend to introduce themselves by talking about their own solution: the platform, the integration, the architecture. The problem is that the owner of a small or mid-sized company does not buy software, they buy the end of a headache. In a short business round conversation, they need to understand in a few seconds which problem you solve, for whom, and what changes in their routine afterwards. If the first sentence has an acronym, their attention is already gone.

Below is the pitch of a fictional software company, in 60- and 30-second versions, with the opening question, what each buyer profile wants to hear and the most common mistakes in the sector. To write yours from your company's data, use the 60-second pitch generator. And to understand who buys and who sells technology in these conversations, see the technology business round page.

What you get

  • Your own 60- and 30-second pitch, generated in seconds
  • Who you will meet on the other side and what they want to hear
  • The five mistakes that most often sink a pitch in this sector

Example: Trilha Sistemas

A fictional company, to show the structure. Yours is ready in the generator just below.

60-second pitch

about 58 s

I am Camila, from Trilha Sistemas. We make an app that helps maintenance and technical service companies organize their field team's visits. You know that spreadsheet nobody updates, the technician who arrives at the customer without knowing what to expect and the work order that comes back scribbled on paper? That is what we solve. The technician gets the day's route on their phone, records the job with photos and the customer's signature, and the office follows everything in real time. At the end of the month, billing goes out with the history of every visit, no arguments. We serve companies with ten to a hundred technicians, in air conditioning, elevators, electronic security and industrial equipment. In this round, I am looking for owners and operations managers of this kind of company. Tell me: today, how does your technician find out about the next visit?

30-second pitch

about 33 s

I am Camila, from Trilha Sistemas. How does your technician find out about the next visit today?

Opening question

Today, how does your field technician find out about the next visit: a spreadsheet, a phone call or a message?

Build your company's pitch

Who you will be talking to

Owner of a small or mid-sized company with no IT department

That the tool is easy to use and that the team will be able to start without long training. They want to know who helps when something does not work.

Operations or sales manager

The result in their routine, in operations language: less rework, fewer phone calls, information at the right time. Features only matter if they solve a problem they recognize.

IT lead at a mid-sized company

How the solution works alongside the systems the company already uses and how the data is protected. They want straight answers, without a sales speech.

Five common mistakes

  1. 1Filling the pitch with acronyms and jargon, such as SaaS, API, ERP and cloud, which a business owner from another sector does not understand and is embarrassed to ask about.
  2. 2Listing features one after the other instead of saying which problem they solve in the customer's daily routine.
  3. 3Saying the solution works for any company, which keeps the other person from recognizing their own case and from referring someone.
  4. 4Trying to do a screen demo inside the short conversation, when the goal was only to book the next meeting.
  5. 5Promising integration with everything and immediate rollout without knowing the customer's systems, which creates distrust in anyone who has been let down before.

Frequently asked questions

How do I explain a technology product to someone outside the field?

Start with the problem the customer lives with, described in their own words, and only then say what your solution does. A simple test: if someone outside the sector cannot repeat your pitch in their own words, it is still too technical.

Is it worth showing the product in the first meeting?

In the short conversation of a round, almost never. Use the time to find out whether the other person has the problem you solve. If there is interest on both sides, the demo goes into a meeting of its own, with the time it deserves.

Do technology companies find customers in business rounds?

A round is a good place to meet companies from other sectors, which are exactly the ones that buy technology. The matchmaking uses what each company says it offers and is looking for to suggest the conversations with the best fit, and contact details are only shared when both sides mark interest. See how a business round works.

How do I know whether my network is helping me sell?

A quick way is to take the networking diagnostic, which shows where your professional network is strong and where it has stalled.

Pitch ready? Test it in real meetings

In an online business round you present your pitch in several short meetings. Your company's first round is on us, with just your CNPJ (Brazilian company tax ID).
