Look up your CNPJ and find out who is looking for what you offer
The Federal Revenue Service record in seconds: registration status, activities (CNAE), size and city. And, just below, what your company can do with it to find customers and partners.
What the lookup shows
When you enter a CNPJ (the Brazilian company tax ID), you see the company's public record at the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service: the legal name and trade name, the registration status, the opening date, the size, the city and the economic activities, both the main one and the secondary ones. It is the same data as the official CNPJ card, laid out to be read in a few seconds, and it works both to check your own company and to vet a supplier or a customer before closing a deal.
What CNAE is and why it matters for selling
CNAE is Brazil's National Classification of Economic Activities: the code that officially states what a company does. Every company has a main CNAE and may have several secondary ones. For anyone selling to other companies, the CNAE is a compass. It shows which segment a potential customer works in, helps build lists of target companies with the same profile and avoids surprises, such as finding out in the middle of a negotiation that the supplier does not have that activity registered. On the record we also show the segment in everyday language, so you do not need to memorize codes.
How to use the CNPJ to prospect and vet suppliers
Before a meeting, looking up the other company's CNPJ takes less than a minute and changes the conversation: you arrive knowing how long it has existed, its size and what it does. With a supplier, an active status and the right activities are the bare minimum before asking for a proposal. To prospect, start with the CNAE of your best customers: companies with the same activity and a similar size tend to have the same needs. And once the list is ready, the next step is the conversation. In an online business round, the platform arranges short meetings with companies that have said they are looking for what you offer.
Where the data comes from, and what we do not keep
The data is public and comes from the Federal Revenue Service's open database, through services that republish it. The lookup is not linked to you or stored under your name: the record stays in memory for up to 24 hours only to avoid repeated lookups, and then it is discarded. The count of companies looking for suppliers and partners is always aggregated and shown in ranges; no company name is ever displayed.
Registration status: what each one means
- Ativa (active)
- The company is in good standing and can issue invoices and sign contracts normally.
- Suspensa (suspended)
- There is a pending issue under review at the Revenue Service; the company is restricted until it is resolved.
- Inapta (unfit)
- Usually, mandatory filings that are overdue. It calls for attention before closing a deal.
- Baixada (closed)
- The company has been closed down. It should not appear as a supplier or as a customer.
Frequently asked questions
Is the CNPJ lookup free?
It is free and requires no sign-up. Without an account, you can run up to 10 lookups per hour. The data comes from the Federal Revenue Service's public database, through services that republish it.
Do you store the CNPJ I look up?
We do not link the lookup to you. The record is kept for up to 24 hours only so we do not query the Revenue Service again for nothing, and then it is discarded. Company data is public; what you search for is not.
Why does the status show as unfit, suspended or closed?
It is the status registered with the Revenue Service. Unfit (inapta) usually means overdue filings; suspended (suspensa), a pending issue under review; closed (baixada), a company that has shut down. Only the company, with its accountant, can fix the status on the Revenue Service's own portal.
Can my company get its first business round for free?
If the CNPJ is active with the Revenue Service, the company's first business round can be on us, once per CNPJ. Final confirmation happens at registration, on the page of the round you choose.
